This stems from a story told to me by Malcolm a fellow harmonicist and steam railway enthusiast from St Ives.
In 1917 a merchant ship the Saint Chammond was torpedoed off Clodgy Point. Its deck cargo included steam locomotives for the Western Front in the First World War.
There was an article in a railway magazine showing underwater photographs of the remains of these steam engines. I’ve always wanted to paint an underwater scene, and this is it.
