This was painted from a drawing from the ‘Psychedelic’ period in 1969.
This is a tongue in cheek homage to those Victorian ‘Fairy’ painters such as Joseph Noel Paton, Richard Doyle and especially Richard Dadd in ‘The Fairy Fella’s Master Stroke’ with the wicked witch at the centre of the picture flanked by two of my ‘trademark’ trees within the enchanted forest full of peculiar animals and even weirder people.
There is quite a strong erotic content (well I was 21 at the time). This is a whimsical view of a fairy tail world that is half way between Walt Disney and Tolkein and a sly take on the luxuriant world of the Victorian fairy painters.
This is a wacky view of the world of the brothers Grimm and Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
