This is an interesting view of a long gone railway, the Old Meldrum Branch.
Here we see a goods train at Lethenty a station on the branch line. The locomotive is an 0-6-0 goods engine classified as J36 by the LNER. Some of these powerful locomotives survived until 1967 and were among the last active steam locomotives in Scotland.
You can see on the buffer beam the depot name of Bathgate which is strange as Bathgate was a long way away over both the Tay and Forth bridges. One can only speculate that the loco had just been outshopped from the nearby Inverurie Loco Works and is doing a running in turn before its long run back to Bathgate.
