This picture is sub-titled ‘My Back Yard’ as indeed it was.
This was a verbatim view from the back window of the house I was born in, 229, Windmillhill Street, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The original of this painting was an oil painting done on the spot in 1974 as part of the David Murray award I won that year. The picture is now in the possession of my Cousin William Colquehoun.
The view is gone forever, both steelworks and the former vicarage have all gone, and 229 made way for a police station. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.
