This carries echoes of the Post-War Britain into which I was born in 1948 when all the surplus war weapons and outdated railway stock was scrapped and converted into new steel for the brave new post war world.
This is a fanciful view leaning on my experience of Motherwell when tons of ‘Pig Iron’ was shipped in and converted to steel joists and plate. Some of which ended up in Bankside Power Station stamped with ‘The Lanarkshire Steelworks, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and now graces the hall of what is now ‘Tate Modern’.
