This is a pendant piece to the Sorceress, #1650, and celebrates my discovery of venetian Red.
This composition pays homage to the version of this subject of William Holman Hunt; I saw this painting recently and it is truly sumptuous.
The floors on both paintings hark back to those wonderful interiors by Jan Vermeer.
The vortex like movement around the figure is something I am proud of.
