This is a memory of the age of steam. From the age of five to seventeen I was constantly travelling from London to Glasgow and back twice a year in the Summer holidays and Hogmanay (New Year). This was from 1953 to 1965 when steam traction was still an essential part of the British landscape.
This fanciful view shows a shunting locomotive known colloquialy by trainspotters as a ‘Jinty’ which is being passed by a ‘Jubilee passenger
locomotive.
The shunter stands on the right with his shunting pole. This is a bold composition and captures the mood of the time.
