This started life as an oil painting made from a 1970’s drawing. I painted the figure of an old man but it was not a success.
When starting this painting my son Daniel, then 26 years old, suggested I use him as a model for the figure sitting in the ruined house. I did a preparatory drawing and painted him from life. I think this made for a successful picture.
