This painting is a marriage of a big drawing of 36” x 24” of ‘The Village’ and a painting of 72” x 54” entitled ‘Lot’s Wife’.
The village and the sky come from ‘The Village’ and the figures, the staircase and the wall come from ‘Lot’s Wife’. Both pictures are in my view two of my best works carried out when I was at Art School. They are influenced by the work of Breugel and Bosch.
This is a modern view, the figures depict my wife Rachel and myself and our college friends Rosie and Graham. Rachel portrays Lot’s wife.
The story comes from that of Sodom and Gommorah and the TV series ‘The Prisoner’, where a group of people who have become a security risk are kept under house arrest in the village.
